HI folks,

Its been a while since I posted to this board, but i Finally got the bird roadworthy & just got it Registered & insurance on it. I need to get it inspected in the next 2 weeks & need to put on a complete exhaust. I purchased a 3" SS Downpipe from a fellow NATO member & am trying to decide on the rest of the exhaust.

I stopped by a local exhaust shop that I dealt with several years before and got a price for a complete system. There work was really good back then, & they are busier then hell.

The systems includes a 3" Hight Flow Eastern Cat. The cat is supposed to be the "only" true hi-flow cat on the market according to the sales brochure. It has 300 holes per inch vs the 400 holes on a standard cat. They claim it yields 8% less back pressure & is ODBII compliant. I have the brochure from the company, so I'm guessing it must be true, or do the Turbo gods think this is just BS.

From the Cat back they would bend me a 2 1/2 inch dual system in aluminumized pipe with aluminum Xlerator mufflers by Goerlichs. They are a flow thru design & hereis the link for the Mufflers. http://www.goerlichs.com/goerlichs/produ...rator1.htm

The high flow Cat, bending the pipes, Mufflers & 2 chrome tips for $625.00 installed. Not a bad price, but here is where I need some advice. First, they are not Mandel bend pipes. I know from all the other topics Mandel is the best, but will I notice a difference. Second, the pipes & Mufflers are Aluminumized & not SS, which means someday down the road I'm gonna have to replace them.

I looked on ATR & Sacraqmato Mustang for the kits they sell. What do you guys think. Should I order those kits or be happy with what I'm getting.

I'd really like to hear from Pete, Dan, Glenn, Scott, Jeff & Nate on this.

ATR lists the dual 2.5" system for $628. You would still need a cat for that system though. The ATR system is stainless so it should be the last system you buy. It sounds great also.

The system you had priced seems good. I don't really think the crush bends will make much of a difference till you hit big HP numbers.

I guess as long as it fits good and looks the way you want it you can't go wrong.

That wasn't much help was it. So I guess we'll see the TC at Carlisle this year instead of the truck.

Most Definitely Glenn. I will has the TC there & already booked the room for the trip. Not sure if eveything will be done by then, but we're plugging away at her. I just have to say that it felt real nice to get behind the wheel & drive her 20 or 30 miles today. Still breaking-in the new clutch so I have to baby her, but it felt REAL GOOD.

Thanks for the advice. These guys would also put on a system if I purchased one. Do you think the ATR will bolt up to the downpipe I bought. I think it was one that Tiny Advanger sold, at least thats what the guy told me who I bought it from. I thought that I saw some posts that the systems don't fit very well. Is that true? How tight is the 3" system? It looks to me as if it might hit the body whenever you go over a bump.

I've heard of people being able to bolt the 2.5 system right up and I know Scott had to have a pipe re bent. The 3" system does hit over the axle from everyone I heard from. You will need to have the downpipe and the catback joined with a custom pipe most likely. Either way you will need to spend some money to make it right. I still think it is a toss up as to the ATR or complete custom. The ARTR is a little more cost wise but it will last as long as the car and look and flow great

There are at least 2-3 people here that have ATR sysems. Jeff K has a dual. Bob Meyers (Martin0660) has one but I don't remember if single or dual.

Personally i think either a dual 2.5 or 3" single is going to be more than 97% of us ever need. If you got either of these with a 3" DP and hi flow cat you are going to be fine

The ATR systems are designed to hook up to the back end of the stock cat equiped DP. My guess is you will need some fab work to your DP to get it to mate up. When I got my ATR 2 1/2" dual system, I got it from Motion Dynamics, whose price was somewhat less than the "list price" quoted by ATR. This was 3 years ago, but I seem to remember paying about $525 for it, including the stainless steel straight thru mufflers.

Hopefully I'm not to late on this post, but I think you are paying way too much. I got a custom mandrel bent 3" dual system, no cat, 2 3/4" DP, 2 Dynomox Ultra Flow welded mufflers for a grand total of only $350

My exhaust is SS and looks/sounds great. I have almost no backpressure, and I love it. Shop around for independent exhaust shops, I found their prices to be much lower than the chain stores.

Wagterd - Is this a front-to-back system you are comparing? I didn't think it was possible to get 3" pipe over the axles. Is the DP stock (non SS)? Why didn't you go to a 3" DP? I am leaning towards the same mufflers and I'm looking for how much to budget towards the project from behind my 3" cat to the rear.

Hey everybody,
What's been happening? I have posted about getting my exhaust done about a month ago, but after reading up on these posts, i have became undecided...You're all talking about 3 inch DownPipes and 2.5 inch dual systems.... The question I have is how to make the 4cylinder engine sound like something a little beefier? Is it possible to put the 3inch DP into a High-Flow CAT, then make it duals from there??? if so, what is the best sounding way and best flowing way to do so??? Or tell me how i should attack this project? I have the cash to get this done, but want to make sure i'm doing it right. Do i use dynomax ultaflows??? can i make the exhaust exit before the rear tires?? or should i custom mount the tips through the ground effects that is next on my order list????? please help me with this!!!! thanx... I just want my car to sound as tough as it looks and run great!!!
thanx again,
ThunderChicken....Dennis

Thanks Wagterd for the advice. I'm still tring to find another source for the exhaust, since I really want a SS & mandral bends. The price I got was from an independant muffler shop - not a Midas or Meineke.

I'd go with the ATR if they had a 3" y-pipe going into the 2 1/2 inch duals. Still undecided
