Last night, i went and picked up an 87 Medium Gray turbo coupe, 5-speed, all options other than moonroof, ATC and keyless entry, the cars paint is rough, clearcoat peeling really bad, but thats to be expected, overall condition is good, paid 500 bucks for it

for the problem, i was bringing it home, drove fine, then started bucking, running rough, spuddering, not wanting to go above 40mph without resistance, i know for a fact it needs a tuneup using Motorcraft parts (has bosch plugs and some cheap wires), and i should check the IC couplers, but is there any thing else to cause it? ive been into thunderbrids for a few years now, but never had an experience with TC's

You have the right idea. Do the tuneup first and see how it runs. Look for bad lines. You should probably replace/check your filters to get a good baseline. Scan for codes next. Could be a plugged cat.

Also get a fuel pressure gauge (if you dont have one already) with a hose lokg enough so you can tape it to the windshield to see pressure while driving. Check pressure to be sure it is spec, especially under boost. If you dont know the specs, let us know, and we will provide them, or do a search.

Do the tuneup, replace the filters including fuel filter and then pull the codes. Let us know if that does it.

Did you happen to notice if it was overheating at all. It might be a clogged cat or muffler, just thought I would through in my two since. I would do the tune up stuff first since you should do that anyway, but if that don't work you may want to look at the exhaust.

it doesnt show signs of a clogged exhaust, it boosted fine for the most part, it dint bog, didnt overheat, didnt feel like it was struggling, so im assuming its fine...itll get aftermarket exhaust anyways, what self respecting turbo enthusiast could keep stock exhaust [Image: wink.gif]

motorcraft parts are a pain to find locally, have to drive 45 minutes to the closest dealer
