Hey all Im having a problem with my 88. It bucks and hesitates with anything more than part throttle, and really breaks up at 3000rpm. Like a big stumble under load

Timing is set at 10*
Cam is straight up, new belt tonight
TPS is .96v
O2 is new
IAC is clean
EGR is deleted
Coil, cap, rotor, wires and plugs are new.
Compression is 150psi on all 4 holes

Old turbo had no seals left in it whatsoever, think the cat is clogged? Any ideas?

So there is a new(er) turbo in it?

If it is an exhaust restriction, the exhaust manifold/ turbine housing may glow red, even with just normal driving. Mileage would be down and you would have to down shift in situations where you did not used to have to down shift.

Have you pulled the codes, double checked the cam timing, checked the fuel pressure diagnostics (all these covered in the Technical Articles.

I'd also check the VAM voltages.

Cam timing is spot on just replaced the belt tonight going back out to poke thru the electrics because the gauges are not working right. Ill pull codes then. I checked the VAM when I hacked the airbox (while I had the turbo out) voltages looked good, steady increase with door opening.

The manifold and turbine housing are painted, and the paint hasnt burnt off/discolored

sounds like vam issues to me, i had my signal return wire come loose and cause the same problems, 3000 rpm is where timing and fuel is added, check all electrical connections, and pull codes

New TFI same story.
Pulled codes
18 - KOEO
34 - KOER car is emissions recall plus egr is deleted
74 - KOER didnt hit brake
77 - KOER i guess cause I didnt smack the intake

I dunno about the 18, the timing changes with the spout in I guess like it should

So you deleted the EGR, why did you get rid of such an importent part of the emissioms system. The EGR does more then just aid in emissions Rolleyes

18= Loss of tach input to ECU, sprout grounded

Sounds like an ignition problem, have you had these same codes in the past

I havent had the car that long so I dunno the code history really. EGR got deleted when I destroyed the tube getting it off to pull the manifold.

Update: its not a clogged cat, although there was quite a bit of junk in it. Car runs the same without the cat. Since Im throwing parts at it anyway next step will be a distributor since mine has an ear broken off anyhow.
