How do I take this out of the engine? I have loosened the bolt and clamp, and it turns, but won't come up. Did I miss something?

I am trying to replace the stator.

I found the helix ? cut of the gears caused me to think I missed something, jiggle the rotor post as you pull up - I think it wants to rotate counter clockwise to get out of the gear. Don't smack yourself in the forehead from pulling like I did.

Did you actually *remove* the bolt/clamp, or just loosen them?

You have to remove the bolt and clamp to get it out. Getting that clamp back on right is a PITA! You have to get the dist. in first, then reach around the side of it to slip it back into place without being able to see what you're doing or where you're going...

When putting the bolt back in, keep the cap off and you will be able to work easier. Also, you might want to go to the hardware store and get an allen head bolt that fits in there instead of the 17 mm bolt that is a PITA to deal with. My 2 cents.
I edited this post remembering that I was mistaken in calling an allen head bolt a hex head bolt. Hope I didn't confuse anyone besides myself.
