Hello, Just got my Turbo Coupe today and am having issues already, lol.Heres what it is doing, start it up and drive it maybe 1/4 mile it will start to studder and then shut off.Once it cools down, after an hour or so it will start right back up and run fine for another 1/4 mile.Any suggestions?Granted I am gonna build this car up for the 1/4 but I would at least like to get there.
Thats problem 1, here is problem 2, the tach stopped working. Is there a seperate fuse for that?
Problem 3, it will only boost to 8-10 psi and is kinda like doggish.I looked at the vaccum hoses and they have seen better days, so I am gonna replace them but could that be the problem?
Sorry for all the questions, am very knowledgable on the MN12s, been out of the TCs for a few years now.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

The list of possible options is nearly endless, but starting with the basics...

Not having a tach sounds like there may be something electrical... TFI that is barely operating ?

Second thing I would suspect is fuel pressure

Does the car idle for a while w/o driving it ? (and come up to operating temp with out stalling out ?)

FAQs/Tech articles will point you in the right direction on these.

Pull the codes and see what comes up. It does sound like it could be a TFI/PIP issue. I'll send you some other testing procedure for those.

You probably ought to just go through all the basics, cam belt, cam timing, tuneup parts and ignition timing as well as checking vac lines and IC hoses if applicable. Clean the IAC and change the fuel filter then see where you are at.

Thanks for the input guys, here it goes again.
Man I swear this car is possesed.Ok, I went to change out the PIP and what do ya know, I broke the frickin dist.No big deal because I work at an all Ford junkyard but thats besides the point.I put a ranger dist in it along with a new TFI module.Put everything back together and started it up.Tach worked and ran smooth.Took it up the road and drove it back, ran good.Changed out the vac. hoses for the turbo because I still wasnt getting full boost and took it back out.Well pulled full boost now but was like bogged down very quickly.Get back to the house, tach stppoed working and then it started sputtering and shut off.Waited till it cooled down and it started back up until it got warm, did it all over again but the tach still doesnt work.
I now see why I got out of TCs in the first place, lol.Just some slight issues, nothing to make me sell it already but I am kinda POed.
I ordered a new dist. which was only like 80 and some change, saves me the trouble of changing the PIP and breaking another dist., lol.And the PIP was like 60 and some change, but that is going back since I didnt use it.
But what else could be going on in that car?
Thanks,
Chris

Measure fuel pressure under boost to be sure pressure goes up in 1:1 ratio with boost.

Has the fuel filter been changed? Have you done a complete tune up using only Motorcraft parts?

Ok, sorry about that double post.I tried to delete it but it wouldnt let me.
Update, new dist. and module, runs good now but still isnt going full boost and holding it.I havent checked the fuel pressure yet because this week-end I am putting an adjustable FPR on it with a gauge.I have to change the fuel sending unit so I am going to drop in a 190 while I have the tanked dropped.
It seems to run real strong and idles nicely, but the tach still doesnt work.Maybe its just had it.
But for what I paid for the car I cant really complain.
Thanks everyone,
Chris
