hello everyone. took out the 88tc for a run today. after jumpstarting it it was idleing rough no misses.took it out it ran fine going up through gears. when i tried to hold it 65mph i was having to to keep giving more throttle. at 1st it was taking 2 to 3 lbs of boost to hold it. by the time i got home.i waspeddle to the floor 5 lbs boost and loosing speed.downshift rpms come up so does power and speed.shift up and it starts all over again. help please i will pull codes shortly.
How long has it sat since it was last run? How old is the gas? Check the air filter/housing for blockage.
Let us know on the codes
here r the codes 14 41 42 58 63 65 66 62 w/engine off. engine running 21 74 77 then car does not want to run with out playing throttle. can u help me find a list of codes. icant seem to find them.
gas is new.car waslast run about mid jan.
Code 14 - intermittent loss of PIP signal. Suspect PIP or TFI but could be faulty plug wire. The is a CM code

Codes 41 & 42 as CM codes. 02 not switching Suspect the bad TPS that you got a code 63 on. There is a technical article on checking/adjusting the TPS.

code 58 could be a VAM problem http://www.tbirdheritage.com/articles/pi...tepid=DA90

code 62 - not on these cars. Maybe misread code??

CM code are Continous Memory codes.

KOER codes. Did you have the engine completely warmed up?

Code 21 - ECT out of range or engine not at operating temp?? If engine was a proper operating temp. test ECT http://www.tbirdheritage.com/articles/pi...stepid=DE1

code 74 - brake pedal wasn't pressed, don't worry about it.

code 77 - throttle wasn't goosed or goosed enough
I think i know the anwser to this question but, i have to ask it. can i clear codes without a scanner. or do i need to buy one?
Yes, either by disconnecting the battery for 15-20 minutes or by disconnecting the scanner while the CM codes are being reported. Since you have an 88, you should have a check engine light (CEL).

See these two articles; 1 about pulling codes and 2. about doing it using the CEL, no scanner needed.
