i have a '85 t/c and am trying to upgrade the alternator.my problem is that i have a 3g-130 amp.which is brand new ,with the serpentine pulley.my stock set-up uses a fan blade cooler followd by a double v-groove pulley.can i get a pulley system for newer style alternator.i haven't seen a 3g for sale for the 85's.i would sure appreciate some help.thanks lou
If I remember correctly, the pulley mounting stud isnt quite long enough when using the double V belt pulley. If that is the case, machine down the inner flat surface of the pulley so you can get the nut on.
that is exactly the problem.the stud is too short.when i mill the pulley will the belts still line up?.that was part2 of my problem. thanks jeff
I THINK they will line up...... maybe sdomeone else who knows for sure will chime in. If they dont line up, I suppose the alt or back side of the pulley could be shimmed to get everything lined up.
I have a brand new 3G that I orderd with the 2 groove pulley and wiring kit for my 85, so yes you can get the correct pulley. I'm just waiting for a warmer day to install it.
hey keith, where did you get the alt. from.it seems easier to sell this one and get the correct one. thanks LOU
Sorry about the delay. I bought from here www.performance.com I bought it with the 2 groove pulley and 3g conversion kit. All I need is time to install it Big Grin
Keith, do you mean www.PAperformance.com?
Yes. I guess I got ahead of myself.
