I just bought an 88 T/C 5 speed in Syracuse NY that is stock, excellant condition, never driven in the winter, and I love it. I would like to do some performance up grades [not too crazy]. I bought a K&N cone and would like to put a high performance exhaust in it but can't seem to find one. Also when I wind it out going thru the gears, when I shift I hear a noise like excess air blowing off thru the waste gate or something ??? Is this normal ? When I wind it out the boost is in the red area. Also where can I buy a service manual for this car. Thanks
Might check your connection of the intercooler. Make sure the hose from the turbo to the intercooler, and the hose from the intercooler to the throttle body, is nice and tight and that the hoses didnt "roll-up".

Common issue.

Welcome to the TC world. You can get service manuals through Helm Inc. Look for a number in th eback of your owner's manual. Read through the thread "Please Help a new TC owner" for the performance enhancing items.
If the car is running strong and you just put the K&N on you are probably getting normal turbo sounds that are not nearly as loud with the stock air filter system. The factory boost gauges are not known for great accuracy. As long as the overboost buzzer is not going off, don't worry about it. The only company making a bolt on performance exhaust system for TCs is Applied Technologies Research (ATR) 864-972-3800. There are some aftermarket Mustang systems that can be "adapted" and there is always the option of having a good shop bend one for you

Thanks for the info. I read all of the threads and its been a big help. Is there a low restriction muffler an cat that is better than others. I'm looking for the performance but I don't want it too loud. Thanks again.

Pete and I are running just about the same set up on exhaust systems so if you would like a detailed description, drop me an e-mail at [email protected] and I'll send it along to you.
I don't know much about the in the red turbo problem, but you can by a manual at Napa or AutoZone made by Haynes for $10-$15. I would take it to MufflerMan and tell them what kind of exhaust that you want. I would keep the 2 1/2 inch pipe from the manifold and from the cat back I would put a 2 1/4 inch Y-pipe with 2 1/4 inch pipes to 2 flowmaster 2 1/4 inch in and out mufflers, then 2 1/4 inch tail pipes.
Chris, I'm not trying to rain on your parade. It's just that Haynes and Chiltons don't have nearly the information that a set of the factory manuals along with th EVTM and the electrical diagrams have. The exhaust system sizes you mentioned are an improvement over the stock sizes but are not considered optimal. A 3" downpipe is far better. Dual 2.5" or a single 3" would be much better. Flowmasters are a chambered type muffler that deals with exhaust pulses very well. The turbo takes most of the pulses out such that Flowmasters tend toward the loud side on turbo cars. Some also feel that chambered type mufflers may be detrimental to performance. Straight through type mufflers are the preferred type on turbos.

yeah flowmasters work but are not "Ideal" i like the flowmaster growl on mine i have a 3" system, and performance is much better than stock even with the flowmaster.

Best of luck,
