I got my hoses infrom NAPA yesterday and the upper hose, part # 8048 doesn't fit my car. The thermistat end of the hose turns up where it should turn down.

After looking on NAPA's computer in the store it appears that, that is what the hose for that part # looks like. Definitely different from the hose presently on my car, which fits.

Anyone have a different part# I could try?
Turn it round, you have it on upside down. Been there, done that Wink
Tried it both ways, but either way it had to be both stretched and kinked.
Try these...

Goodyear 61032 or Kelly Springfield L-157. Both are available from Autozone on line.
I stopped at my friendly local NAPA store this morning. They confirmed the same number - 8048, you have for an 85. There is a different number for the 87-88s. That number is 7869. And the picture of the 7869 is definitely different than the picture of the 8048. They gave me printouts of both pictures and I will try to scan these later. They are not great pics.

What I don't know is why the 87-88 would be different than the pre-87s. I don't have a pre-87 car handy to make a comparison.

Here are some pics of two different 88 TC upper hoses. Not sure that either hose is NAPA but I strongly think the last two pics are of a NAPA upper.

Maybe you can determine if the 87-88 hose will work for you.
Wow, none of those look like mine.

But, I did try the 8048 again and sure enough it does fit. It just takes a round about way of getting there compared to my original and it humps up in the center. Hope it doesn't rub on the hood. It does look like it is trying go around something that doesn't exist in my car, like the dual fan setup on the 87/88's.

Hope I didn't cause any confusion. Apparently the 8048 # is GOOD.

Thanks
the hose i had on my tc a few weeks back was the one with the hump in the center, which i hated and got form napa. i used to deal with napa all the time at my old job and now i deal with Pep Boys mostly, so when i got my new hose it was the correct one that has two bends in it shown in pete's first picture, the old was had a crazy hump in the center i hated, but it didn't hit the hood, i used it for 3 year with out and issue. just doesn't look right.

i never understood why ford had so many variations of the same hose, weird.....
My biggest concern is that high point in the cooling system is going to be in that hose.

Everytime I remove the radiator cap I'm going to lose coolant. The 1st picture of Pete's may work better
History: The hose with the hump is made for older Ford 2.3 engines with dealer installed air conditioning which put the air pump on top right of the engine and a huge Tecumseh or York compressor just below it. This setup uses three belts, the air pump being driven from the compressor, the compressor being driven by the crankshaft, the alternator by the third belt to the crank. The same hose, with some trimming for length, fits all the 2.3s whether with down-flow or cross-flow radiators, factory or dealer air, rotary or piston compressors etc. The one size fits all is an aftermarket decision, in this case made by Gates (NAPA) 25 years ago.
