My pump failed so I am installing a Walbro 255 lph.

The filter on the end fits differently since our tank pickup is at an angle compared to the Mustang I suppose that the pump is made for.

Do you think I should trim the rubber on the end of pump isolator so the filter sits flat?
Here's the picture of the isolator that protrudes:

Or is this the rubber isolator that was warned not to use because the fuel can't be picked up as easily (too low)? Previous owner did change the pump once before me.

I believe I just used the sock from the old pump on the new Walbro pump.
The old sock does not fit on the new pump very well. Very loose.
I cut the rubber on the bottom of the isolator with a hacksaw so it does not have astep anymore. The new sock/filter fits much better.
