Encountered a hair raising experience today. Just about 3 blocks from home when the accelerator went Wide Open and pegged the tach all the way over in the red. I quickly shut the car down and drifted to the side of the street. Waited a moment and tried to start the car again with the same results. Finally popped the hood and noticed the spring on the throttle linkage had worked it's way loose and one end of it had lodged against one of the cooling fins on the valve cover causing the whole throttle assembly to stick wide open and not return to the closed position. The end that had hung up has a 90 degree bend in it, where does this 90 degree bend attach to? This is my first post, the car is an 1987 with 94k miles. Runs like a champ most of the time. Just need sum help with this part.
The 90* bend goes on the bottom side under the long boss. The spring need to be tensioned before you put it under this boss however.

This is a hard thing to explain without pictures...

Did it come off the Throttle body ? Because that really isn't possible unless the linkage is disassembled from the throttle body...

See the pictures. sorry they aren't better. In pic 1 the white strip is pointing to the part of the spring (rusty) that comes off where it winds around the shaft and makes a loop to attach to the bottom side of the long boss (lower part of picture) Pic 2 shows the white strip pointing at the spring end on the bottom of the boss.

Thanks for the pictures Pete. I went out before you sent the pictures and put the spring end back around the boss. The spring itself is not in the best of shape, looks like the previous owner goobered it up pretty good. Is the spring a critical piece? Should I look into purchasing a replacement? Thanks again for the help and pics!
