What are the options to optimize the brakes on my '88 TC without upgrading to 5 lug and on the current Teves system?

The brakes just feel "vague" for lack of a better word.  I do plan to bleed the brakes and replace the hardware on the calipers (pins, clips, etc), but wondering if I should upgrade the pads to something like a Hawk ceramic pad.  The pads and rotors look in good shape.
I am not ready to make the plunge yet into the 5 lug and Cobra master cylinder yet.  Maybe in a year or 2.
