Okay...I read everything people wrote on setting the base idle. So I go and try to set it on my car. I unplug the IAC and try to start it...and nothing happens. The car will not start. No matter how high or low I have the idle set it just will not start. Any solutions to this. THis is my first car that I've worked on. So I'm learning as I'm going. So please bear with me. I think I'm doing a pretty good job so far.
Stephy, are you sure you are unplugging the harness to the IAC and not the one to the TPS? What year TC? You need to have the intercooler and hoses in place if it's an 87-88

I unplugged the harness to the IAC NOT the TPS. Believe me I checked that. All the hoses are inplace and everything. I even cleaned the IAC just the other day before I did this. ITs an 88TC, by the way. I just don't understand why it won't start without the IAC plugged in. Its just kinda weird.
What I would do in your situation is:
  • *Start the car with the IAC plugged in
*Adjust the base idle screw so it is touching the throttle.
*Remove the IAC plug. If the car dies, then there are other problems. It shouldn't die, though.
*Back out the screw until base idle is where you want it.

Hope this helps.

Crank the base idle screw (at teh linkage on the front of the throttle body) so it contacts the little arm, and turn it another turn or 2. The car should start with the IAB disconnected. Let the motor run until it is warmed up, and turn the screw out until the idle drops to 750-800, and reconnect the IAB connector. Idle should pop up to about 1000 and be stable. Once the base idle is set, you will probable need to adjust the TPS closed throttle voltage.

My guess..the Crank is off 180 degrees.
