87 coupe 110 k... steering fairly tight but noisy on uneven roads. PRC works well but I noticed that the covers pop off the towers when I turn the wheel while at a standstill and I would assume also when driving.

Any suggestions as to why the top of the strut is moving enough to pop that cover? I was thinking maybe installing new strut mounts??

Ron

Are the strut retaining bolts tight?
yes that was the first thing I checked... they were very tight
with the hood open I reach in and turn the steering wheel and watch the PRC cover begins to move slightly and when the wheel gets almost towards maximum rotation the cover pops off the 3 mounting studs.
Upper strut mount failing?

that's my first guess. Just thought maybe someone else had experienced this also so I could eliminate the guessing game repair, especially since its cold out now and I don't like to do anything when its cold out but eat and sleep.
Yes I have the same problem with the left side, which has a non-standard (non-OEM) upper strut mount.

I **just** opened a thread about a week ago here on the Upper Strut Mount topic. You could review that, it's brief.

I also have an odd crunching noise during turns, bumps, etc. along with the PRC cover misalignment. Again--upper nut tight and staked in place (it came loose once on the road--ugly story). And, my front end alignment shop told me they can no longer accurately set the Camber for that wheel (outward tilt at the top of the wheel).

I'm looking for an Upper Strut Mount as close to the original OEM design as I can find--for these reasons.
so if I understand this correctly, there are no exact fit OEM strut mounts available any more?
I haven't been able to find anything. Most are a more "universal" type, and there's even several different types of those.
oh great... any one wanna chime in on the perfect strut mount replacement?
