ok, trying to pull the aux shaft because I think I can find the bolt I dropped down the oil return passage thru the hole where the aux shaft is and because it looks easy.

When I pull it out, it gets as far as the bearing and the warnings say don't let it touch the bearing.

I'm assuming I have to remove and replace that bearing or am I missing something?
I assume you have the distributor out already?

No need to replace the aux shaft bearings if they are in good shape. Just dont scratch them while pulling the shaft out.
yes...distributor is out and thanks!

Sometimes I just don't know how hard to pull and the book reads like if anything touches the bearing you have 3,400 pounds of scrap sheet metal.
Aux shaft out, found the bolt I dropped, got it out and now I'm buttoning up on the self inflicted damage. When that is done the head goes back on.

Thanks for the guidance!
Glad to here the tide shifted in your favor.
