#29 Rear main seal. Your diagram is showing a 2 piece seal. I know I have used 1 piece seals on my 88s. I know they changed to the one piece at some point in time but I don't remember when. You might want to check that further as to which you need.

You will need two seals for the crank and aux gear cover. You will nee a 3rd if you pull the cam shaft.
cool Pete thanks!

I forgot about the 2 piece rear crank seal. I just assumed that when I look up the original part # that newer 1 piece seals may come up as an option. I was mainly confused with the front crank seal.. that it appears to be the same as the Aux.shaft. I see the 3rd now for the cam that you mentioned but that's not going to be touched.

I have seen some back n forth posts on what oilpan gasket is better than the others. I know that a "one piece" gasket is a must but what Gasket type seems to hold up best?
I would be cautious on the oil pan gasket
Early 87s still had the older style 4 piece while the newer 87s and in had the one piece
They are not interchangeable

Woah hold on a sec... are you saying that if I remove my oil pan to find a 4piece gasket set That I can't replace it with a one piece set???
Yes. Rear main cap is different between the 1 piece and 4 piece.
Yes unfortunately so, what's the build date on your car?
Maybe we can compare it to our cars and find out which one you have.
Tag in Driver's door says:

Date: 06/87
VIN: 1FABP64W5HH209565

I find it odd that in my parts search for gaskets that I haven't seen a multi gasket part come up as of yet, only the one piece style.
I guess I will find out once I pull the engine.

So to be clear, no matter what year I have if i find a 4 piece gasket on my pan then I have to replace it with the same? Or is there a certain production date where these 4 piece gaskets can switch to a 1 piece?
You have to use the gasket style the engine currently has on it.
