Has anybody had success get some quality engine sound out of their bird? Wondering if anybody has tried those big end mufflers tuners put on their Honda and nissans. They do make a lot of noise on those imports. I see Rock auto is out of tailpipes. Guess that's gonna become common with these classics.
There are a few videos here, Cliff.

I have 3" single stinger down and mid pipe with no cat and no tail pipe currently. Sounds really good but dronesssss on the freeway or when cruising depending on engine speed. I plan on sticking a tail pipe and a cat on mine tho!
Its hard to get away from the " tractor sound" they produce.
Like to hear one of those tuner mufflers. Really makes the Hondas sound totally different.
Cliff,

I just ordered replacement stock rear pipes for my car this weekend, as the previous owner cut them off when replacing the mufflers. The right one appears to be more expensive/harder to find than the left one, but here are ebay links with some availability:
Right Walker 45039
Left Walker 45010
I think what you are talking about is the circular style that's basically hollow with a circular baffle and possibly packing? The turbo is going to kill all the rasp, so it will sound wayyyy better than a rice burner. Also, the cam my 88 sounds pretty darn good for a stock one. If you get a turbo style muffler of any kind, you will not be dissapointed. It's my impression that you want a blow through style vs a baffled (like flowmaster's on a v8) as you will make more power with the less restrictive muffler. On a N/A motor it can be helpful for topend but you will get better low end-torque gains from a baffled or tuned muffler. Especially a N/A 4-banger. Flow is to mid-upper horse power as restriction is to low-mid torque.

I'll see if I can get a video made for you! Anything in video will not do it justice but it's a good starting point.

Also, no more tractor sound when you get away from the stock setup. Mine sounded terrible when I got it, though it had massive holes in the mufflers.
Thanks guys
I run a full 3" mandrel bent exhaust system with a Hooker Maxflo muffler dumped at the axle. I've been told it almost sounds like a big bore sportbike only deeper and of course louder.
I also have a race dump at the end of the dowmpipe for track days. Uncap that and the angry tractor shows up, lol!
I sorta like the turbo tractor noises.
Cliff I made you a sound clip but later figured out I had a dying piston so it didn't sound right lol.
