Took all of 5 minutes to gut the old one out. Took a bit longer putting in the new one. It is a 3 row and is alot thicker than the OEM one.But with a little tinkering I got it done.

One thing I have noticed is the last few days I am getting an increasing tapping coming from the valve cover. Rocker perhaps? Valve?

So, if your friend Ron B. didn't help too much, have you taken it for a drive to determine if it has helped the pinging?

Its not pinging anymore, course its not getting as hot as it was either, but NOW the dang thing sounds like a diesel engine. God I bet I will have to take the head to a machine shop, something under that valve cover sounds like CRAP

I know this is obvious and there is a 99.9% chance that this isn't what is causing the diesel sound, but just to make sure, you've checked your oil, and it is full and not full of water, right? (Not that I ever had a car with hydraulic lifters and forgot to check the oil, and freaked out when the lifters didn't get enough oil to take up the slack in valve clearance, or anything like that, just in case you were wondering.)

Oil is full, and no trace of water in the oil.....

Next idea?? [Image: biggrin.gif]

Mine has a slight tapping from a worn cam. I'm going to assume that yours is more than that.

Hmmm, time to let your friend Ron, or his friends Mickey Lobe and Johnny Walker start to work on the problem. Sometimes Mickey Lobe has helped me to come up with ideas I wouldn't have thought of otherwise, although, to be honest, some of them weren't really good ideas, and that is probably why I wouldn't have otherwise thought of them.

Went out and inspected my cam.......That thing is wore OUT!
Found a few worn spots about 1/8" thick. Would that be a good idea of my culprit?

Ummm... yeah.

2.3s will wipe cams out if they run dry for even a few seconds.

Time to go scour the yards for a Ranger roller! FWIW, I did mine for $15 - and it took 45mins to put it in and get it running.
Anyone with a suggestion for a new cam? part#? I would "scour" the yards, but I don't really have the time or the resources.
Someone let me know.
