The shift knob in our '87 Turbo Coupe has melted, and we were looking at replacements online. We found a shift knob that will work on 1983-2004 Mustangs, but will it work in the '87 TC?

Here is the link to the shift knob.

Not sure if these are still available but contact a Ford dealer or even Green Sales if interested.
The part number of the shift knob in that thread is XR3Z-7213-BA. I noticed that the item number of the shift knob at the Mustangs Unlimited site is also 7213CL. Does the CL indicate the charcoal leather color, whereas the 7213BA part number may indicate a black leather color?
The basic Ford part # for all shift knobs is 7213. They are further defined by the 4 digit prefix, which identifies the car line and year. The one, two or three digit suffix is just the production iteration of that particular part.
Okay. Thank you very much for the clarification.
As an add to this: When I was still running the T5, I bought a new take off shift knob for a 2005 Mustang GT off ebay for $20 IIRC. It looked and felt good in the car. It also threaded correctly onto my my Pro 5.0 shifter. It was just like this one:

I have this exact knob bought from mustangsunlimited. It's a nice piece...bigger than the factory knob. However, I am not thrilled with the way they attach the metal insert to the inside of the knob. Just a few days later, the thing spins around inside the knob and I'm unsure of a way to fix it. Also had to re-tap the threaded insert to fit the threads on the shift handle(which I shouldn't have had to do). So...this is a cheap knob and you get what you paid for.
