As some of my other post will show, I'm looking to upgrade my tc soon. The problem I'm already seeing is I'm thinking I will be pushing the limits of the stock clutch and wanted to see what you guys thought.
so far just a k&n air filter with a cold air setup from previous owner.
I was looking into;
BOPORT 1.9 cam
MSD6AL-2
MSD Streetfire coil
255hp Fuel pump
Gillis boost valve
Custom 3" exhaust all the way to the bumper
vac./boost gauge
wideband o2

From what I've read the limit on the stock clutch is about 250hp isnt it? And I feel that the above modifications will exceed that number slightly. If it was just street driven I wouldn't worry about it, but this tc will get to see the strip occasionally since it is only about 7 miles away. If I do need to upgrade the clutch, what is a good one to go to. I dont mind a heavy clutch pedal as long as it holds whatever I throw at it. I just don't want to spend a arm and leg for it since if I'm going that far I'll probably go through the tranny to make sure it is up to par.
I have a Spec stage 3+ in my TC. You can buy them from several vendors or direct from Spec. Look at the Spec web page, decide which is best for you.

Check with Stinger Performance to see what he has also. It's always good to support the vendors who back the 2.3 community.

As for the performance "LIMIT"! ****MONEY!****
You can also look at pyropete's clutch on eBay or turboford. I have it in my omni, and it's pretty indestructible. my only warning is it's very grabby, so in my light omni, it's not a problem. In a heavy Tbird, it may not be so fun to dd
You may also consider doing the 5.0 clutch conversion. It's a little pricey to start, but then you can use any 5.0 clutch.
Thanks for some places to look for clutches. Yea one limit on performance is money, but what I was concerned about is with the listed modifications would that be too much for the stock clutch to handle with the little bit of racing it will see.
Drag racing with the stock clutch with much more than stock power will kill it.
That being said, I was very happy with my Centerforce Stage 2 setup up to about 400hp. Drove nice on the street and would 60' in the 1.6's on slicks at the track. I outgrew that cutch and went to a Clutchnet 4 puck and while it worked great at the track, it was pretty grabby on the street.
So I guess I will be rebuilding the trans and putting a clutch in. I'd rather get a clutch that is a little more than what I need than one that just meets my current planned needs.
I wish I had the money to go ahead and rebuild the engine too. I guess that will have to wait.
Is there something wrong with the trans? Unless it grinding on shifting or having trouble going into gear, I would just run it.
I ran many 11 second passes with my 240k mile T5.
The trans normally shifts fine, but sometimes doesn't shift smooth. I've had it grind on shifts before, and there is a little noise. So as a precaution if I'm going to have it out for a clutch, I'd rather go through it considering the abuse it could see.
Gotcha. Sounds like it could use some synchros.
That's what I'm thinking, I've speed shifted it once or twice and it done fine. But I have a feeling it needs freshening up and id rather do it while it's out than just see if it holds up.
