So im driving this mourning to work and I normally boost around 16 or 17 psi however today it was shooting a few PSI past it. It was then "stalling out" im not sure the driving term for overboosting would be but im pretty sure thats what was happening. Then as im pulling into work I get a bunch of smoke under the hood and oil everywhere. Im hoping its just the valve cover gasket that might of blew out in the back and not something more serious. The last VC gasket I got from ford didnt have the steel skeleton and was just rubber so maybe thats what it is.
Cold air is denser so more air gets crammed in under boost. Assuming you have a functioning boost control device, boost should not vary much, a "few" psi is too much - you might want to check yours and that includes the WG.
If you blew out enough VC gasket, that would become a vacuum leak that could cause stalling if big enough. One other thing to check is the functioning of the PCV

Well I do have a semi rigged boost controller that came with the car so maybe that is the culprit. Not sure how to check out the wastegate?
And I replaced the PCV with a ford one like 4 or 5 months ago ill check it again tonight after I tow it. Just gotta make sure I get the right VC gasket this time. If thats even where the oil is blowing out from.
Overboost (not sure how much?) If you were actually overboosting a lot check and make sure the dipstick/block seal isn't where some oil is blowing by? Especially if the pcv isn't working right. If you want to check the wastegate you can lower the boost controller to limit boost to 5 psi and make sure it hold it there no matter what.

It wasnt alot to be honest I dont know exactly by how much but it was minor. I will check those out too. As far as I knew the PCV is working correctly. I was running a non metal framed VC cover which came from Ford of all places. Im wondering if 19-20 PSI blew it out?
You can take the arm off the WG pivot arm and just see if the pivot arm moves easily through at least a 45* arc. The stock Ford WG is set to begin opening at about 9.5 psi. You can attach a controlled air pressure source set for 10 psi, to the WGA port, then watch the WGA arm. At 10 psi it should just barely move - a few thousandths of an inch

Thanks pete ill check it out once I get my oil leak under control. I think its time I order a Gillis valve regardless I feel like this is a sign lol. The home depot special has out worn its welcome.

Id also wanna look into a Catch can setup and ditch the factory setup for the future if I wanna run bigger boost. I just need to re read that write up on stinger about a 100 more times before I get it.
Just watch out for the little clip (on top) that holds the rod up into the pivot arm. They are alive and like to fly to far corners of the work area Big Grin

I second that! In fact - I can't even get one to stay on mine. The only thing holding the rod on to the arm on mine is the oil return line!.

Same exact thing happened to me
After replacing the vc gasket that didn't cure my prob
It ended up being either the oil pressure switch and line
I replaced it with stingers oil feed line and a new switch and that finally fixed it
If your spewing oil from the rear of the engine that might your problem too
