my 84tc has a classic 2 post radio. I want to swap this over too a single din. Do they make a kit for this? will I have to cut apart my stock radio trim?

Matthew
I THINK its a DIN sized opening.
Aw c'mon, just put an 8-track player in like I did. Wink

In 1984 there were actually 4 different radio plates:
- Two post radio, no System Sentry
- Two post radio, System sentry
- Electronic radio, no System Sentry
- Electronic radio, System Sentry

If you can find an electronic plate for your car, that's half the battle.

You would also need to find some kind of mounting plates for the new radio. Sometimes with an aftermarket radio, you can put the sleeve in the radio plate, bend down the tabs, and have a semi-decent mounting system in which to slide the radio. I'd still recommend some kind of back support though.

The size does support a 1-DIN radio.
I found some NOS parts that might help...

NOS 1983 THUNDERBIRD COUGAR RADIO FACE BEZEL BLACK

This is the electronic radio panel, no cutting necessary.
(Note: 1983 panels had a chrome surround, 1984 had flat silver. Either panel works, just wanted to let you know if you need things to match correctly).

83 84 Ford Thunderbird Tempo LTD Stereo Support NOS Mercury Cougar Marquis Topaz

That looks to be a side support, although it may also work for a rear support. Or you might be able to reuse your existing rear support with modification.

NOS 1985 1986 Ford Crown Victoria LTD Thunderbird Mercury Radio Mounting Bracket

This one may or may not work in an '84 dash...I can't remember offhand. Probably not, but just a reference. Otherwise you'd have to fab up some kind of metal support if the aforementioned sleeve system doesn't work.
