After getting my bird running again. I have discovered i need a new fuel tank, leaking. I called around the parts stores and the best I can find is 101 or something close. So I jumped on ebay and started looking. I found two, one was an 18gal at 101 and the other was a 21gal at 65. Both of them are new and free shipping. I believe my tank is only an 18gal and my car uses the duel pumps. Will the cheaper 21gal fit?

Please and thanks
Matthew
I think different years used different tanks. look on rockauto and compare part numbers from 84-88 to see.
87-88 have larger tanks.

RDOG swapped the larger one in to an earlier bird and was able to retain the original straps, sender, and pump I believe.... BUT - no word on if the original sender is still accurate or if the pump still reaches the bottom of the tank. Obviously, at least one of the tank dimensions has to be different, but I don't know which one.
The dimensions are identical except the 22g is one inch deeper. Could that really throw the gauge off that much? I know I wouldn't get the last few gallons.

well friends. I went to order the new larger tank today. they tell me its for an 84 turbo bird. but then say its the model with the fuel pump on the block. any ideas?

Matthew
I thought the first year or two of TCs used a dual pump set up - a low pressure in the tank and a high pressure outside the pump. I have heard of people converting to a single, in tank pump arrangement
Sounds to me like they're implying a turbo bird with a mechanical fuel pump. :dunno:
No such thing...
My bird is one of the dual pump cars. I think I need to speak with a manager because I was under the same frame of mind. Turbo birds came in one of two arrangements. None of those were mechanical.

I got a brand new tank from ebay. It can with new locking rings and gaskets, and even the filler tube grommet. Cheap too
I got mine from rockauto.com. Fit like a glove, only thing I had to get was a fuel neck grommet.
