Morning guys, can someone explain this.......88 turbocoupe seems to run great, rebuilt garrett T3, 16lbs boost, k&n filter. Went to check my timing yesterday just for the hell of it and with the spout out it is reading like 8deg. ATDC, and with the spout in it is reading 10deg. BTDC. With the spout out shouldn't it be at 10deg. BTDC? She starts right up and runs good but i don't know why the timing is so far off??

Thanks, Joe
Someone probably set the timing with the SPOUT plug in. You are correct timing (stock) should be 10 deg BTDC, set with the SPOUT plug out. With SPOUT in, and at idle, timing will be in the 25 to 30 deg BTDC range.
So if I take the spout out and reset it the right way I should be all good? and probably even better?........
It should be. If it isn't, get back to us.
If you thought the car was pretty good with base timing at 8 deg ATDC, wait until you drive it with the timing set correctly at 10 BTDC. Hang on!!

I am guessing it built boost REAL early at low RPM and low throttle opening with the timing so retarded.
HELL YEA. ....now that's what I'm talking about!!! Idles still right at 1000 and hang on is right. Do I need to reset TPS or anything? I'm used to my old 5.0 bird
If it is idling fine, no need to mess with the TPS. If TPS closed throttle voltage goes over 1 V, idle will hang high.
Thank you sir, you have been a great help!! I had the 5.0 sport with T
FS heads, ported cobra and ALL the goodies, pretty damn quick and then she happened to hit a pole on my 16 year old sons first day out, so this Turbo thing is all new to me....
Sorry to hear about the loss of your 88 Sport. Sounds like it was a great car with all the mods you did to it. I love my 86 Tbird 5.0 just as much as I love my TC.
