I got a new Garrett T3 turbo from ebay and I'm all excited to put it on. So I attach the turbo to my header and I go to put my turbo elbow on and it's too freaking small! The 5 bolt pattern on the new turbo is bigger than the turbo that came off an SVO Mustang. I really need to get my car back on the road as it is my only vehicle and I'm running out of time on borrowing a friends car. I can't find a Ford style internal WG elbow that will fit. Anyone know where I can find one?
Post a pic of your turbo. It sounds like you went from an IHI to a T3. The IHI elbow wont work, you need to get a T3 garret down elbow.

Also when you get the correct elbow, you will have the lengthen the flange holes on the downpipe. The T3 is slightly wider. It takes 5 minutes with a drill and elbow grease.

Worse case scenario and you need a quick fix right now and all you did was go from a old T3 to a new stock T3, then swap out the turbine housing and use your stock turbine housing, Its just held on by a few 13mm bolts and two brackets. If they are both stage I turbine housings, they should be a direct swap. Just bolt it to the new T3 center cartridge and use your stock down elbow
Hey Rdog. Yes, I guess I went from an old T3 to a new one. I tried to take my old turbine housing off but there are two bolts that hit the center housing and I can't get the turbine housing to rotate at all. I'm not sure how to get it to rotate. Torch maybe?
Does it even rotate like the compressor housing?
Use those bolts to push the turbine housing away from the center cartridge. Spray it with PB Blaster first. Then push it away using those bolts. dont smack the housing with anythinh else other than a rubber mallet. You risk damaging it.
It will rotate once its free
Well I got the housing off and tried to swap it to the new turbo and, of course, the turbine wheel is bigger on the new turbo. I've come to 3 conclusions:

1. Find an elbow that will fit the bigger 5 bolt pattern, which I don't even know where to look. I don't want to replace my 100 dollar downpipe.

2. Have a machine shop machine out the old housing to the specs of the housing on the new turbo, if that's even possible.

3. Buy a turbine wheel that will fit the old housing. Of course if I did that I would have no idea what wheel to buy because when it comes to the specs of turbos it's a foreign language to me. I just know the mechanics of turbos and such.

Ugh, this turbo swap is driving me up the wall. Any ideas on what would be best? Anything I haven't thought of? Thank you to all that help. It is MUCH appreciated!
Get another turbo that you know will fit and sell your current one on Ebay.
Dude post some pics! We are all running blind and cant help you if we dont know what you have.

1) post pics
2)Provide link of the turbo you bought on evilbay

I bet you bought a hybrid T3/T4 50 trim stageII or III. If that turbo was a stock replacement, there is no way the stock parts from the other turbo would not fit, especially if its a rebuild Garret SVO turbo. If you paid less than $150 for a rebuilt or new garret turbo on ebay, I'm 99% sure its not a Garret, but rather a chinese knockoff. Yes, you can machine your stock turbine housing to fit, but first let us see what you have.
