How bad? Did you reset the timing?

I have the timing belt cover off, verified the timing marks were right but did nid not put my timing light on it yet. When I put the new dist. in it felt like it was in all the way then bumped the ignition, checked the dist again and it went down a little more. I figure the oil shaft had set... Should I just set the timing and go from there it ran for 10 min. then I shut her down and the overflow bottle was spewing out water. Should I just start her again once cooled down and make sure timing is correct. She was running good, but I read where timing will make it run hot.

I guess I'll put the timing belt cover back on and check the timing. Just didn't know if I needed to pull the dist. for what ever reason.

Make sure the cam timing is right first. Then check the ignition timing

Set the timing and all seems to be good. I learned that even though it may sound like it's running good, that timing has to be correct, then go from there with adjustments, TPS etc..... I had a shop here work on it while offshore for a month and they just set things up where it seemed like it was ok. When it really wasn't. Lesson learned....

Most shops have never seen one of these cars and have zero clue about them. They probably set ignition timing without pulling out the SPOUT connector. I bet most younger mechanics have never even worked on a car with a distributor before.
