I cant find a non cracked head for the '87, so I am thinking I will order a rebuilt for $300, pull the cam, and put my Crane in. The I can take the cam that came in the head, and my new HLAs and rockers, and put them in the '85 since it is sounding very much like a VW TDI.

My other option is ordering one that is roller, and making the '85 a roller setup.

Will this work? What has to be swapped?

I have a head that just came outta the shop still wrapped with paper work. Didn't know you were looking for one.

Typically the reman heads are n/a heads not turbo heads (heart shaped chamber, no sodium filled valves, etc.).
I understand that, and have already spoke to the rebuilder about the chamber shape. How do you verify the valve type.
According to Bo, the turbo valves will not draw a magnetic pull but the NA ones will slightly.
