Anyone have any good methods of removing the rear axle bearings without using the special tool? I don't feel like buying one, as I'll probably never use it again. I'm just hoping someone has done this and has figured out an easy way to do it.
You can borrow (with a temp deposit) some tools from AutoZone.
That's what I did. Got the Autozone tool, used it, returned it and got my deposit back. It's a LOT better than doing it the wrong way. Use the right tool for the job.
i use a slide hammer. if you have the differential removed, you can use a long piece of tubing and knock them out from the opposite side.
Thanx guys. I have used the long pipe before but this rear is all complete and in the car. I guess I'll be going to Auto Zone. I just hope the axle itself isn't chewed up.
