Anyone that has rebuilt their tail lights... what did you use for a sealer front to rear. I don't believe the factory used silicone because mine were still sticky after all these years. Appears to be more like the product the adhears the weather stripping to the body. Also is there a source for the round anti-rattle stuff between the rear housing and the front. It also is still sticky and last, do they still make the nuts that attach the reflecters, Thanks!
I just used silicone and its lasted a few years so far and don't look bad... Also you can probably get the nuts in the HELP section at AutoZone
I used strip caulk to put them back together. You can get it at Auto Zone. I would just make sure the clips are grabbing the outer lens so they don't fall out. So far so good. I have heard that some use silicone. I just want to be able to pull them apart and clean again in the future if I have to. You know how the black paint will peel form the inside and dirt gets in the lens no matter how good you seal them.
Thor,
Be real careful when you tighten that nut which holds the reflector to the tail light. When I did mine last Spring, I gave it one turn too many and broke the sucker off. It's just a plastic stud on it. Ended up having to cement the reflector on. BTW I used that chrome paint to spray the insides and they came out nice. -Kent
