I'm going to replace the strikers on my 85 TC's doors. Does anyone know if the nuts holding the strikers are captured in the door post, or do I need to remove the rear interior panel to keep the nuts from dropping into the door frame? I loosened one striker and it appears that the nut moves, but that may be for adjustment purposes. I don't want to take the striker off and have the nut drop out of sight, but also don't want to remove the rear panel if it isn't necessary. Thanks for any help you can give me!
On my 88 and everything else i've seen the nuts stay in the frame. Can't say for sure on your car though. I took about 5 strikers from the jy last time I was there. Of course I pitched the support piece and got home to find I needed that also. They don't want to seperate on the Bird striker.

The nuts for the strikers are in what is called a cage and unless the cage is rusted out or broken, you should be able to remove the strikers and replace them without losing the nut on the inside of the quarter. The strikers have up and down and right to left movement when loose for adjustment, so the movement you describe is normal. If the nut cage is broken or rusted away, you will have to remove the inner quarter panel trim to retrieve the nut and hold it while you tighten it back up, but I have only seen one or two cages rusted or broken in the many 100's of cars I have removed the strikers from. So, you should have no trouble in replacing them....Tommy
