Figured I'd start a new thread on this one. I'm pretty sure I have an ASC sunroof - given the big button "ASC" on the switch (LOL). Anyway, the headliner has trim around the sunroof for the shade, and also is stuck pretty good to the roof at the windshield. The opening for the sunroof appears to be trimmed on the sunroof, and the black trim is glued. Since it is REALLY attached at these locations It felt like I was destorying the backing trying to get it off. Is all of this just glued up? It seems like the windshield part might have clips on it. I don't want to jack up the cardboard getting it out; my headliner is in perfect shape. But I need to find out if the motor for the sunroof is bad or what. It doesn't work at all.

Anyone ever removed a headliner on an aftermarket sunroof? Anyone got any tips on troubleshooting the ASC wiring, especially where it's wired to?

No experience with the Ford unit, but I would imagine it's similar to the ASC unit that came in the Dodge/Chry K-cars.
In the case of the Chryslers, there are a few wires that lead up to the switch and the roof motor, and also to a control box. (Some sort of 'logic circuit') The control box is about three to four inches long, black and lord knows where they hid it on the Ford. It seems to me that there were a couple of fuses involved as well. (one in-line.) Look at your fuse-block and see if there are any power take-offs from another fuse.

It's late right now, but if you can give me a day or two I can get the color-code. (For the Chry ASC at least.)
Thanks. I meant to post that I called ASC and they said to look for 2 wires in the drivers A pillar. Both would need to be connected to work. He also said that if I power it and it doesn't work to peel off one side of the headliner and look for the motor and then apply 12v to it. Depending on the polarity it would either open or close.
The support at ASC is top notch btw. Very nice, helpful folks. The switch is obsolete. If I needed one version of the module it was $300, the other was $100. He also said it was the most often used as aftermarket in the 88 tbird, model 800. The headliner in the back of the sunroof is just stretched across the roof, no backing used.
ASC builds some very fine stuff.

During my Ford Sales days...ASC was the Aftermarket Sunroof of choice.

The Customer was in a Win Win situation with this product. They could buy the car of choice out of stock , without the hassle of a special order just for starters

The ASC product had a warranty that was good for as long as the origonal owner kept the car...where as the Factory roof had a drop-dead under the 36/36 plan.

If memory serves? The ASC sunroof also had a broader range of function over the OEM too.
Hey Matt... That sunroof may be an ASC unit. Check at www.sunroofdoctor.com. Onthe right you will click on Sunroof Parts & then Parts for Aftermarket Sunroofs. They will list pop-ups 1st, so scroll down till you hit the Powered ones at the bottom.

Good Luck on the new purchase.
Thanks Tony! Hope your house is going well, and that garage that souded really dreamy Wink
