Going to get a good set at the jy for my 86. How do I remove the metal window trim without damaging it?
I know there is a Trim removal tool that the glass guys use. I remove the trim from the parts car and I boke the clips but the trim was ok. I am gonna reUse the rear window for my car.
A lot of times the clips will have weakened enough or rusted thru over time that the trim can be gently pried up and pop loose. Don't use a metal pry against the window, either plastic or a thin piece of wood under the pry. There is a tool, bent flat metal with a hook on the end. The hook slides under the trim, hooks the clip and pulls it back away from the body side to release the trim. New clips are still available if you look around on the web.
I put a phillips head screwdriver to the rivets, and gave a decent smack with a hammer. The rivets popped out and the trim came right off.To reinstall it,I used a little sealant and small (I mean small) self tapping screws.
What rivets??? There are no rivets on the '86 window trim.
