If anyone is interested, there are cheap older tester / scanners out there. The one I came across is the OTC Monitor 2000. It can do the KOEO, KOER, wiggle test, ABS. The thing walks you through the whole setup with the LED screen giving instrustions.
Make sure you get the 3-in-1 cartridge for all U.S. makes up to 1991 and the book that goes with that cartridge. That is of course if you have an 87-88 bird. The cartridges for up to '86 and a different manual are also available on your certain auction sites.
Also, make sure you get the Ford connector or at least the three wire pig-tail.
