I borrowed a comp. tester from a buddy of mine and it has both spark plug threads, but the smaller one doesnt have long enough threads to screw into the head. What do you guys use? Thanks
I use a screw in kind. The kind with the rubber cone on the end where you just press it to the spark plug hole are a total waste
The kind Im borrowing is Actron brand. It screws in, but the adapter for the smaller plug only has about 3/8" of threads on it, so it doesnt catch the threads in the head.
I got mine from Wal-Mart for around $22 It had the two different spark plug type adapters and it works excellent. It looks like the brand on it is "IEC". The "IEC" has a bold line above it and a bold line below it. If this isn't the brand name, then I don't know what kind it is, or do I care. It just works.
Well I went to Walmart this morning, but they didnt have anything. Decided to go to NAPA to get a head gasket and bolts, and found a really nice compression tester. Its just store brand (NAPA), but it works great... It was around $35 and came with both plug adapters.

#1= 145psi.
#2= 147psi.
#3= 149psi.
#4= 150psi.

Whoooohooo!!
I got a KD Tools compression tester from my local NAPA. I dropped it and it broke and they replaced it... it has a lifetime warranty. Smile
napa quality is usually pretty good with things like that. Hense the higher prices, but those numbers doo look good all with a couple of each other.
I have a Matco one I bought about 13 years ago still works great,

just chect my compression with it today

#1=160
#2=163
#3=160
#4=165

and the plugs were a nice tan still
i bought one from fleet farm..can't remember the brand name but it worked great. it had the exact right size of screw in adaptor for the 2.3t i agree the push in ones are junk
I've got an Equis brand screw in style. Wroks everytime and I've had it for years.
