Well recnetly I bought a Greddy stye BPV. I didn't have the money to but a flange so I made my own. I bought a 1/2" piece of aluminum at a welding shop and cut out the shape. I then took it over to the local machine shop and asked him to drill the big center hole and surface it smooth & flat. Well I wasn't there when he dropped it off at work. As soon as I got back from lunch the guy the got it form them from me said" Wasn't he suposed to surface that?" I told him yes so he went and got it. Yes they had drilled out the center hole along with the two smaller outer holes. Plus the surface was rough as hell. Everyone I work with at the parts store was like that isn't surfaced. This was right in front of Carol. It is her husband that did the work. She even works there.
So any way one of the guy told me to take a thick piece of glass and put some sand paper on it and surface it my self. I did just that. I started with 220,then 400, next 600, last 800. Damm it looks awsome. Looks as smooth as the bottom of the BPV I bought. This should work for small parts. This only took me like 10min at most. That is with alluminum so it might take more work with harder metals.
Here is a pic of the done flange next to the piece I cut it out of. Also it is gonna get a 1-1.5" tube welded onto it then welded onto the factory 87-88 T/c intercooler. I also am goning to route it back into the front of the turbo. Also I'm trying to get it to blow as stright as possible directed into the inlet of the turbo. Hoping to help any with helping the turbo spooled up. It sounds like it would work so that is what I'm hopeing for. Also no richness form loosing metered air. Trying to preserve gs mileage as much as possible not that it is bad get 27-30 on the highway.

donT geT iT, why use a Thick peice of glass?
glass is stright or flat what ever .so by putting on the glass your part will end up with a stright and flat surface.

if you were to use the sandpaper by hand your fingers would make grooves.
What he said.
