Searching, ive read that the Autozone siemens replacement motors are faster than stock?? and only require i hole to be redrilled. Are these a good option to go with or should i buy other aftermarket motors (napa??) or ford? Thanks. Obviously looking for best bang for the buck too. Im soon gonna say this is my 2006 thunderbird turbo coupe, replaced so many parts...
When I first got my 83 the window motors were the first to go. After checking Ford dealers (a couple hundred bucks) I ordered from J C Whitney. They were identical to the ford motors castings and part number, same supplier. It was either three or four rivets I had to drill out, no big deal. First use a drill bit smaller than the rivet to get centered, then use a bit large enough to take out the rivet. It is a PITA but anyone can do it.
Thanks, does it matter that mine is an 88 (forgot to mention year). Yeah i figure they cant be hard compared to rebuilding the engine and now getting ready to do a heater core.
I believe the motors were used in just about every ford produced. For both ford and gm you see almost the same part numbers for many years.
theyre pretty simple. after you remove the door panel there are dimples in the metal from the factory that are inline with each of the 3 rivets. dril a hole on each of the dimples big enough to get a socket on an extension so you can bolt the new motor in with ease. if youve got everything you need right there it shouldnt take more than 30 minutes each side.
You can rebuild 'em in 30 minutes for $10-$12. Very easy. Check my link.

evintho, cool to know, but I think the motors are "weak", i cant imagine the motors are that pricey and figure it should be the last time and only time i change them, figure they lasted 20 years another 20 should be good... I guess i should check out local parts suppliers for motors, just thought i could get some been there, done that, spent this, or dont buy those buy from "x". Thanks.
Usually it's not the motor that goes but the plastic gears. New gear assemblies can be had fairly cheap. Other than the mess from packing the gears with the included grease, a rebuild is easy. As far as speed, I replaced the driver side with new motor and gear box and later the passenger side, gearbox only. No difference in operation. Passenger motor is original.
I've got AZ motors in both doors at the present time. When I bought the car, the driver's side motor was bad, and I got a junkyard (JY) replacement from an '88 TC. Did motors a couple of more times with JY motors from Tbirds 86-88, and they eventually all failed. All of the JY motors were bolt in. The holes on the AZ motors don't align right. The two on the sides align, but the bottom doesn't. I just skipped the bottom bolt. The motors work, are smaller, faster, and have less play than the ones I got from the salvage yards.

Hope this helps.
I see no one mention here that when you take out the window motor, the window will drop down really fast.
So I would make sure you either hold onto the window or tape the glass to the outside of your door somewhere to keep it from falling down inside your door.
You don't want to be replacing your glass too!!!
