***Anyone with a short attention span, click backspace***kinda long story.

The TC I picked up from Jon Moller was torn apart tonight. As I was removing this and that, I was plesently suprised to see that nearly every part I touched was new!...or looked new anyway. Well, I get down to removing the head and I was so anxious to see what went wrong. Yeah, I was thinking a headgasket or cracked head. Well, I didnt even get the head all the way off before I slipped my fingers under there and felt all the piston tops. They all felt perfect! So I continue removing the head and OMFG my heart sank! Theres major damage in cylinder 1, (see pic) the valve seat is just hanging(never seen that before) and the wall is scored. There was NO damage to the headgasket. All the other cylinder walls looked perfect but something I noticed..... all the piston tops are level with eachother. Shouldnt 2 be up further than the other 2? My first guess is a broken crankshaft or #4 threw a rod and piston got stuck in its current position.
Either way, I cant complain. The car was free and its a very decent car! Luckily, a few months ago I picked up a spare motor I planned on doing a 350HP build for the Ranger. Now, its going in the TC. Im thinking this current motor will not be salvagable considering what went on.
Thanks for reading.

you didnt mention the chunk missing from the piston which shows the rings lol. yea that looks pretty messed up good luck. Also there is a point when all four cylinders are even grad a socket and turn the motor over via the crank bolt i bet you they all move.

No, man, that engine will clean up just fine! I 'm not sure on the head, but the block just needs to be bored. .030 over will probably do it. Easily rebuildable.

I doesn't look that bad, but yo should have them checked out. If the cylinder walls a not scratched /scorned, then I would have the block checked & if it needs to be bored, I would only do the least amount of overbore to done to get it right. You need to replace a piston, so I would replace all along with bearings, seals, etc.

As far as the head, have that checked at the same time to determine if its salvagable.

wow, john sure does know how to toast a t/c doesnt he? oh well, glad you got a good long block to put in her. as for the "new parts", most of them ARE new, we had like 1800 dollars of work done to that car. theres lots of new stuff in there, couldnt tell you exactly what, ask uncle bill. [Image: smile.gif] anyways, happy turboing,

-edit- that does, however, prove mine and johns theory that it that tube leaked ans the car went lean. thats the only way i can explain the burnt piston. [Image: smile.gif]

Always makes your heart sink when you find that kind of damage, but with the extra motor you can do all the extra details. You have an excellent deal with the interior being excellent, the motor can be what ever you want it to be. Makes her even better than before.
thats some nice distruction in there, he he fortunatly 2.3 T engines are a dime a dozen and plentiful, atleast where i am.
