Full Version: Oil in the compressor side of turbo...

I noticed the oily film in the turbo inlet while having it apart yesturday. The oil breather vents right there, is this a problem? Just a little more lube for the compressor side and vlaves? Or, it's just messy and no biggie. The oil breather filter would clear up the oil problem, but then there's no Positive Crankcase Ventilation is there?

An oil film on the inlet of the turbo is normal. And yes, there is Positive Crankcase Ventilation when there is vaccum present, but not under boost conditions. Sometimes the breather filter will overload with oil and let more oil through. Take it off and clean it using Brake Clean, that should help.

Also, check to be certain that your PCV valve is functioning correctly. If you can blow through the small end, it needs to be replaced. Be sure to check any new PCV Valve you buy, as well. Some brands are better than others.

Ther are people running just breathers. The PCV side is still functional. It's the hose that comes from the oil seperator low in the block on the rear driver's side. Has a hose that comes up near the distributor where the PCV valve is plugged into it and a smaller hose off the top of the valve to the underside of the upper intake,
