i have a new to me 88 turbo coupe. i did the usual maint(cap, rotor, wires and plugs)
it runs like a scalded dog(5 speed by the way) until about 4800. then just wont rev any tighter.
my only reference is my svos. they wind up to the redline(6750). is this a characteristic of the turbo coupe . if so ok. if not where do you look first. when it runs out of rpm there is no missing ,banging or odd noises. just wont pull any more.
thanks
bob
Did you use Motorcraft parts for your tune-up?
Your 88 should go to 6K in first and second (rev limiter at 6250) and 5500 in other gears, but the turbo falls off after 5000 or so. I'd say something is wrong. Have you checked timing? Forget to put the sprout in?

Good judgement comes from bad experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

thanks for the replys.
i only use autolight or ford parts.
i did not check the timing - spout is in.
also i forgot to mention that as far as i can tell the car is all original- the boost gauge goes to 10# immediately and stays until the motor drops off then it also drops.
thanks
bob
Another vote for the timing is off.

I vote for fuel pressure problem.... Pumps are failing now that they are getting up in milage. In the begning stages, will cause the engine to "lay down" at higher boost and RPM levels.

Three 1988 Turbo Coupes .....
yea one of em has a 5.0 And runs 13.1s......
uhhh make that [email protected] with a 90hp shot of nitrous.
I am with Tom.... check fuel pressure under WOT / high RPM to be sure it is base (39 psi stock) plus boost pressure. (54 psi with 15 psi boost)
