I went and picked up a head gasket tonight and I got the 8993 one and paid $57 for it. Thought that seemed a little expensive but when I got home it contained every gasket for the engine including the head gasket and valve stem seals. I dont really need all the other gaskets and was wondering if I can buy just the head gasket itself cheaper or do they all come in sets like this.
No...you can by JUST the head gasket ! Take it back and slap them...

Unless you already have all those other gaskets, your are going to need some of them.
At least the upper to lower intake gasket (assuming you leave the lower attached to the head) Valve cover gasket (unless you already got the good rubber one on there.) You should check the head for warpage. If it has to be milled it has to be disassembled (at least I would) and you will need most of the gaskets.

NATO Member. it's not a vice, it's an obsession
Good judgement comes from bad experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Don't forget to replace the head bolts, they are torque to yield bolts.
no they aren't. only the for for replacement head bolts are torque to yield (they don't say metric on the heads)

...so you have a V8...isn't that cute...
The current replacement head bolts that Ford sells are not torque to yield, thay are angle torque..... not the same as TTY.
