Full Version: Well, I'm about done with this car.

I re set the cam timing on the bird today. It is definitely 100% ON and now it even has a new belt.

It will still build 10 PSI in a neutral rev, and it will build 20 psi with the wastegate hooked directly to a boost referance. Under full boost, i get a flutter.

I bypassed the intercoler with a pipe between the turbo and throttle body, and the VAM door flapping problem went away. I can still build the boost like described above.....except without any flutter at all.

If I could sell this car right now and get enough to buy the 83 Capris RS up the road, I WOULD IN A HEARTBEAT. This car has destroyed my love for the thunderbird and the 2.4T engine in general.

/rant. Anyways.. I dont know where to go from here.
u need a new wastegate once it gets some real boost goin through it like the 20psi u were saying it reaches when you hook it right up to a boost source it trys to work and flutters the waste gate open and close so get a new waste gate from either ebay or on here in classified I'm almost willing to bet that's the issue ur having at hand.

I'm not too surprised anymore by the boosting in neutral, especially with the .48 hotside. It'll do it even easier free revving if you leave the BOV hooked up.

My Holset, with a MUCH bigger turbine and about .70 a/r hotside, will hit a little over 5psi if I pump the throttle in neutral.

Back to the issues-

Didn't one of your pictures show the cam timing mark to be off a little? How did you get that worked out?

Did you ever try putting a stock TB on it?

Let me know.

You may have tried this but:

Have you locked the wastegate flapper in the OPEN position to see if it helps with the VAM bounce issue?

I'm just thinking that, with all the mods you've done to get the air in, that .48 might be "choking" things?

It could also be the reason you can't keep the boost down, since it has no choice but to spin like crazy?
have you removed the compressor housing? if so maybe you didnt get it lined up correctly and the wastegate is stuck
