would there be any harm in bypassing the factory controls to the fan for a adjustable thermostat control to operate the fans.

I would leave the factory system intact (if it operates), and piggyback another controller on it. That is what I did. that way, if the aftermarket controller fails, it still has the factory system as a backup.

No. You just need to make sure you have a relay to turn on the fan when the AC runs.

I run this one but I don't have ac so no need for that to work on mine.

reason i ask is i think the irmc relays are bad. i checked the tech articles out and tried the various ways to check the fans and they dont come on. there isnt a fuse under the dash is there? the cover for mine is gone and i dont have my manual handy. i can get another used ircm from a friend for a few bucks but thought i could get a aftermarket controler and get it to come on earlier than 210*

Glenn, What temp do you turn it on? Also what * thermostat are you running?

I'm turning mine on(both fans together) around 180. I run a 180&deg thermostat.

I think it's a good idea to run the fans directly off the battery, since the stock wiring is marginal to keep up with with all the electrical power these cars demand (unless you've done a 3G upgrade and replaced the wiring as per Jeff K's instructions on this site). I run the main fan using a thermostatic switch I purchased at Autozone for $16 about 8 years ago. I have not had a lick of trouble with it. The computer is still controlling the smaller fan.

Sorry about hijacking the thread. Glenn, I have a dual fan set up on my 85 and wanted to add a temp control on the second fan. The question is, where is the best place to sense the temperature? I cycle the 2nd fan with an head pressure switch for the AC.

I would go right at the t-stat housing if possible. I have mine in the rad inlet.

im runnig dual fan setup also im using an adjustable units with relay to on them on , need to clean up the wireing thought
