In a few weeks I'll be pulling the engine out of my TC and I figured it would be a good time to do any maintenance that might be needed. The engine has about 95k on it now.
I'm planning to do the valve cover gasket, plugs, wires, dissy cap and rotor, timing belt, coolant flush, thermostat, hoses.
Serp. belt is new.

Anything worth doing with the engine out?
(or with the trans out for that matter, as it is being swapped to. It does have 2 month old fluid in it)

What am I forgetting?
Replace rear main seal, check front main and aux shaft seals

Any and all heater/cooling system hoses not recently changed. Especially the ones on the driver's side.

Inspect/repair/replace and metal coolant pipes in poor condition.

Inspect distributor gear, check shaft for side play

Check all gaskets.

inspect for rust in the front strut towers and sub frame rails and under batter tray.

inspect engine compartment wiring - look at wiring to the two relays under the vacuum tree.

If the cam belt is original, it's way overdue

check inter cooler coolant hoses

Check brake and fuel lines where they lay on backside of K member, for rust
Thanks Pete!

Any more info about checking or changing the seals you mention?

I have a feeling I'll be replacing most of the coolant piping.

The engine bay and related stuff (strut towers, brake and fuel lines) I'm not too worried about as I'm putting the engine into another car that has no engine at the moment. I've been going through it trying to make everything nicey nice.
Bill,
I meant turbocharger coolant hoses, not inter cooler coolant hoses. It's late, brain fart.
Pete, funny part is that i'm planning to put in a water-air intercooler Smile
Bill new auxillary shaft and dizzy gear.I would also replace the aux shaft bearings. Also make shure your dizzy bearings are good. This should be your number one priority. Along with rings bearings and head studs. And every gasket and seal. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
If the engine is out, why not install new FREEZE PLUGS???? makes life easier with the engine out.
