are the injectors the same block and head the same how hard to take older motor and update too 88 intercooled
The injectors in the '86 are 30# and the 88's are 35#. The computer is different because of the intercooler. Timing, fuel curve and all that kinda stuff.

so all that's different between and 86 and 87 engines is:
the exhaust manifold, the turbo, intercooler, injectors, computer, and intercooler?
I'm not sure if the 86s have the big VAM like the 88s, and the cam might be different too. Maybe someone who knows what they are talking about should reply before I put my foot in my mouth.

I'm fairly sure the '86 had the smaller VAM.

I'm pretty sure that the 86 came with the brown top injectors. Mine has brown tops, and if they aren't the original injectors, I will be truely surprised, since the previous owner(s) didn't do any maintenance at all.

The guy I just bought parts from really knows Ford Turbo cars, and he said that I have the small VAM.

Yes, 86 have 35# injectors (brown).
83-85 had 30 pounders (green).
83-86 all had small vam.

Not all of the 85's came with the green injectors, my car has the brown ones too.
From what I have seen, when Ford switched from the inline style intake to the square style intake the injectors where changed to brown. It's probably dependent on when in the model year the car was built. Early cars green and mid year or late cars brown.
My 85 for example was built in late August and the firewall has an "E6" part number stamped on it. Go figure.

In late 85 Ford changed to the brown top injectors (35lb)and changed the computer giving the engine 15 hp more. They stayed with the smaller air meter. There is a lot of controversy as to whether you can use the large air meter with the stock computer.
