Hello

I'm new here and I'm not a Thunderbird TC owner but I'm currently doing a turbo-conversion of my Dodge Avenger
The turbo I choosed is the IHI RHB-52 that was on your cars it was pulled from a 88 TC and was completely rebuilt and balanced with a new OEM compressor wheel
I choose this turbo because I remember very well how quick it could spool on your cars I drove (let's say I lost a few races in the early 90's to some TC ...)

I have searched a lot on the web and nowhere could I find the CFM rating of the IHI
I read you faq too and couldn't find it either

Anyone knows ?

well the IHI pretty much is a crap turbo... no offense to the choice but the T-3 that came on the 83-86 tc's are alot better. They support up to nearly 300hp and can boost to 22 psi no problem. Where as the IHI looses all efficiency at 18 psi(just starts heating the air) and will support only about 235hp(I may be wrong on that one)

There really isn't any published info on the IHI...for some reason all this info is kept secret.

Garrett and Air Reasearch (now the same company) have info on their turbo's but nothing much is around on the IHI.

Jason is correct though...think about a T3 turbo. If you want something that spools up quickly like the IHI maybe a T3 .48AR (the average T3 is a .63AR).

The Dodge Avenger bottom end is nowhere near as strong as the Ford 2.3l, in either the I4 or V6 so I seriously doubt he's looking to run very high boost levels, an IHI would be fine for what he's trying to do.

Exactly
I have the 4 cyl 2L DOHC engine
There is now way that this engine stock
will survive to 15+ PSI
10 psi is close to the max before going into trouble

That's another reason why I choose the IHI
another reason is the fact that my engine is already pushing 140 hp NA stock I don't need a huge boost to hit 240-250 at the crank
