Full Version: Bought a T3, need some advice.

I bought this T3 today. Could you guys look at the pics and tell me what else I need to make it work on my 88TC? I know some of the stuff already, like the flange will need to be ground down and the turbo clocked to work with my stock intercooler. I've also read the tech articles about changing the car over to a T3. But in the auction, the turbo doesn't come with the exhaust side part that connects the back of the wastegate to the assembly. I will also need the turndown where the O2 sensor plugs in, right? If you have been keeping up with my problem in my other posts, don't worry, I will have that sorted before I go to put this turbo on. It will probably be around Thanksgiving before I attempt the swap. Any thoughts or suggestions would be absolutely appreciated. I also realize the turbo has the .48 housing and that it's most likely not a T3/T4 like it says. That's okay because the .48 T3 is what I've been looking for since I don't go to the strip, and I live in the Ozark mountains so the fast spool up after a curve is important to me. Thanks again for any thoughts.

Think twice about grinding those "ears" off. There is not a whole lot of area to clamp the IC hose to afterward and they tend to blow off easily. I used an outlet pipe from a non-intercooled turbocharger and cut it a couple inches above the flange. That then bolts to the turbo outlet and has plenty of meat to clamp to and if I want to go to a front mount later it is easy to do with that set up.

It'a an 0.48 T3. Sounds like a good choice for what you want to do. I had one and liked it. More than once I have thought of going back to it because it the additional lag of the t3/t4 I have now.

The auction pictures show a waste gate actuator and rod. That rod will connect to a pivot arm that is on the downturn elbow where the 02 goes. It s a different arrangement than the IHI where the pivot arm is built into the turbine housing Is that what you meant?

Yep, that's exactly what I was talking about. I guess I need to post this stuff in the parts wanted forum, but what exactly do I ask for? That's kinda what I was getting at. Thanks.
You want to ask to a "t3 type turn down" or T3 type exhaust elbow"
I'm jealous Kev. I was looking for one of those. You got a good deal, too.

I have a round adapter snout and a top mount/front mount outlet adapter. it allows you to rotate turbo in any direction. I was going to use it but I purchased a FMS FMIC and it comes with the 90* elbow for the T3. PM me if you want it
