So, awhile back I had the ambitions of performing an ECU swap on my 84 TC. I bought injectors and an ECU off of ebay, and then pretty much pushed off the project becuase I wasn't sure of all the needed steps to be taken since the only guide I could find was for an LA3 swap.

To be honest I've had the ECU and injectors sitting around for about two years and I can't remember if they are a PE1 or PC1 and green-tops or brown-tops. The only problem is that they are both in the same box, burried in my storage unit. Clearly, I need to find them before anything happens.

So, if it's a PE1 then that'd be big VAM and brown-tops, but if it's a PC1 then I'd only would need the brown-tops and not a big VAM? I also was under the impression that this level swap should be a direct replacement of my current computer with the new one, without any re-pinning or running wires. Would this be true? For some reason I seem to remember something about the SVO computer to have a temp. sensor (or something extra that the TC's didn't have) even on on the early models.

The more I think about it, I think that the ECU I bought is a PC1 and not the SVO PE1. Not sure on that, but that's what I wrote on my Cardomain page way back when.

Side note-- the first result when I just googled PC1 was this, a "new" PC1 for $39 http://www.fattysrodshack.com/index.php?...&Itemid=58
The PE uses the large VAM and brown tops.
The PC uses the small VAM and brown tops.
The PC with brown tops should give you a noticable feel in HP gain over your 84 set-up.
thanks, that spells out exactly the information I've been looking for recently. Ya from factory specs, the 85-86 had 10HP more than the 83-84's did, as far as I know the injectors and ECU are the main differences.

That should be a direct swap when I get around to it, right? No re-wiring needed if it's a PC1? If it's really that easy then perhaps that's why I haven't been able to find any resources on how to do this swap.

Another thing I've been wondering about is the factory boost stages for the 83-84 TCs. They don't have a BCS like the later models but somehow there is still an overboost light on the instruments panel, the only source for that I can think of is the vacuum line running from the turbo outlet in the direction of the vacuum tree. I've been planning on getting a boost controller to set at 12 or 15 psi (no IC yet), I think that the 83-84's only were set to 10psi. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The source I have says 83 to 86 TC pin outs are the same. It appears there may be a couple differences between 83-86 TCs and 84-86 SVOs

The 83-84 with no BCS probable (guessing here) run a line straight from the compressor outlet or vacuum tree, to the WGA and is starts to open around 9.5 psi
Well I managed to dig up the box I had the parts in. Turns out that I do indeed have a set of brown tops and a PC1 sitting here. I think I'm going to send these off to get cleaned and flowed to put in after my motor is rebuilt :-)
