Hello all, I just received and installed a product called Duracool!!! It is a replacement for R12 in the A/C. THIS STUFF IS AWESOME!!!! I put it in my 87 TC and my A/C blows so cool now, it will freeze you out of the seat. It would highly recommend it. All I did was add one can to the existing low side valve and it was that easy. I bought it from a guy in Tennessee and can give you his info if anybody is interested. Its non-toxic and non corrosive. Great stuff!!! thanks
Supplier info please and how much per can? Was your system completely free of R-12 already?

I'm not sure with Duracool specifically, but I've heard that a lot of R-12 replacements contain propane and other highly flammable stuff. So if you use anything like that, be careful charging the system, and make sure your lines and O-rings are in good shape!
I talked with a gentleman named Charles at Fox Tool and Supply in TN. His # is 615.865.6251. It is $6.00 per can and only took me one car. My car blew just cool enough to piss me off. I put one can of Duracool in and it blows COLD now. Ask for the R12 kit too when you call
STEVE
Duracool is not half as flammable as R134. He sends you tons of information on the product and also an MSDS on it. He will also talk your ear off about Duracool. Nice guy

I use Autofrost, which is a drop in replacement for r-12. It only takes 80% as much as r-12 and it blows cooler. It is non-flammable and is 95% less ozone depleting than r-12. I really like it. beats the hell out of R-134a. It runs at a lower pressure and uses mineral oil, ame as r-12. Good stuff at about $7 a can.

BTW if you don't know if what you buy is flammable or not you might want to find out before you blow an evaporator core. My dad bought some stuff and they assured him it was non-flammable, but the formula on the can was propane..I lit a candle and set a can about 2 feet from it and shot it with a rifle...real impressive....and that is what it could look like inside your car if if you blow a core.

Bob, where can you get this stuff? (Autofrost) I've never heard of it, but if it's as good as you say I've got about three cars to drop it in!

What fun shootin' cans! Used to shoot old spray-bombs in bonfires about twentyfive years ago when we live in the country! OOOhhh, the colors...
Most of the R12 replacements don't have enough propane in them to be dangerous, if you know what you are doing. R12 is an azeotrope meaning it stays blended. Most replacements are blends (near azeotrope). If you charge the system incorrectly and seperate the blends or propane you can have a real problem on your hands. R134 is an azeotrope refrigerant and does not contain propane. The problem with 134a is lower capacity and our systems are designed for R12. R134A systems work fine because they are designed for it. I use R414B (Hot Shot) as a direct replacement for R12.

An azeotrope is a blend of two or more liquids that when combined will boil at a lower temperature than the components of the blend will by themselves. Alcohol (amyl) and water will boil at a lower temp than the alcohol will or at a lower temp than the water will. All compensated for pressure. This is a good deal for refridgerants as the blend will out perform a straight fluorocarbon in many situations. Ya all want to keep this in mind when you are thinking water or alcohol injection. [Image: biggrin.gif] A proper blend will absorb more heat than will water or alcohol straight.
Autofrost is made in Bloomington Indiana and I will see if I can find a list of distributors.

So that would explain why so many people get their blood boiling with a Jack and Coke? [Image: biggrin.gif]
