ok i need to get my hla's out. Some people are saying a valve spring compressor, but my valve springs have some kinda shield around them, thats going to make that pretty hard. Is there a better way of doing it?
The shields I have seen only go up about half way the spring. The compressed spring will be in coil bind when it gets all the way to the cup. Unless your cup goes all the way to the top of the spring, a valve spring compressor will work just fine.
You only need to compress them far enough to get the followers out then you can remove the HLAs

This is what I use because it works in the car, KD 3087

Or make your own spring compressor.... see my article on the tech articles page under "Engine".
