how do i tell what torbo i have? i was told the orignal turbo was replaced, but have no records of what it was replaced with

Most likely it is the IHI turbo in there, since the car was completely rebuilt, im sure they returned it back to stock as much as possible.
Stock turbo was the small IHI, which boosts at lower RPM, but runs out of steam at high boost. For a stock auto TC, or even one where you up the boost to, say 15 psi with a boost control valve, it would be best to stay with the IHI.

Only way to tell which turbo you have is pull off the intercooler and have a look at the turbo. If it is an IHI, the compressor outlet "snail" will have WARNER ISHI lettering cast into it. If it is a T3, the outlet will probably say AIR RESEARCH on it. Another way to tell, if you look at it and say to yourself "damn, thats small", you have an IHI.

If it is a T3 it can also have Garret stamped on it.
